As you may be aware the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead have been charged with developing six Phase 2, Children’s Centres by March 2008; these will be on the following sites: -

• South Ascot Village School 
• Woodlands Park Village Community Centre
• St. Mark’s Hospital 
• Ellington Primary School 
• Dedworth - Dedworth Green First School
• The Lawns Nursery School

Children’s Centres are a government-inspired initiative to provide accessible support for families with children aged 0-5 years.  The Centres are intended to offer a range of services, either on site or through links to participating agencies. The range of services will vary between Centres and will be determined as far as possible by local needs but all will offer access to the following: -

• Children’s Information Service (CIS)
• Speech and Language Community Project
• Health Services
• Employment support – Job Centre Plus
• Parenting and Family Support
• Support for Childminder Clusters

The guidance issued to Local Authorities by the DCSF (the Department for Children, Schools and Families) clearly states that consultation with local communities is essential in order for local needs to be established. We would like to invite you to take part in a consultation to help determine the parenting and family support offered within the Children’s Centres.

The Early Years & Childcare Service are working in partnership with Family Friends, an independent local charity which provides support to parents of young children throughout the borough, to carry out our consultation with local communities. Nora Royles will be representing Family Friends and will be co-ordinating this consultation, the outcome of which will shape the services offered.
