How is support provided?

Family life can be very hectic so we want the support to be flexible and to fit around your other commitments. If possible, we recommend weekly sessions, as regular support is more beneficial to you. Sessions normally last about 1 hour and can take place in your home or at our office; whatever suits you better. We assure you of complete confidentiality. We encourage you to feel able to speak freely and therefore we do not share information without your permission, except in those cases where we feel there are safety concerns.

We offer 6 sessions, then review the support with you and decide together whether further support is required.

The principles used in the sessions are the same as those covered in our ‘Enjoy Your Children’ courses.

What happens in the sessions?

We are careful not to bombard people with information or move too quickly. Your views and experiences are valuable and a joint approach to resolving difficulties is encouraged. We will provide you with a file, and during each session you will be given helpful handouts summarising what we have covered. Occasionally we might use video/ DVD clips to illustrate particular strategies. You will be encouraged to try out strategies between your sessions and will then have the opportunity to discuss your progress with the Family Support Worker.

Our aim is to equip you with the tools needed to help you become a more confident parent and enable family life to run more smoothly. The topics covered could include…

I’d like support, What do I do next?

You can contact us by phone or e-mail [contact us] or, if you prefer, you can ask a professional such as a GP, health visitor, teacher or social worker to refer you.

Not sure if we can help? We’re always happy to talk through your situation and if we can’t help, we might be able to refer you on to someone who can.

Remember, we also provide support through our ‘Enjoy Your Children’ course that provides you with the added benefits of meeting others in similar situations.
